Garden Valley, Idaho

“The hidden gem of the Gem State”

History

During the great Idaho gold rush of the 1860’s, the neighboring town of Idaho City saw a major boom in population due to the excess of gold in the mountains.

With such a great burst in population, the town was in desperate need food and provisions. Luckily for them, Garden Valley is not far away.

Due to Garden Valley’s very fertile soils and far reaching grass meadows, it was the perfect spot for planting crops and grazing animals to supply the miners.

Over 150 years later, not much has remained since then, but the lands of Garden Valley are still very fertile. Because of this Garden Valley is the best spot in the west for viewing wildlife; seeing an elk or a deer during your time here is a near guarantee.

Wildlife

Garden Valley is home to a tremendous wildlife presence. Many mountain towns all across the Rockies require you to go deep into wilderness to admire these beautiful creatures. Garden Valley is the perfect exception to this.

All around Garden Valley and at The H5 Ranch, elk, deer, turkeys, songbirds, fish, and birds of prey are in abundance. Every client that has ever stayed at The H5 Ranch, experienced these animals.

So if you’re an animal lover or a National Geographic wildlife photographer, Garden Valley is your place.

Local Lodging

Garden Valley is one of the most unforgettable places to stay in Idaho. And you have many options on where to stay.

Our two favorite options (other than the Ranch House) are the local Three Bears Inn or a luxury AirBnb/Vrbo.

We also do find that many people take pleasure in driving to and from Boise during their event at The H5 Ranch. It’s only an hour away!
